Room 101

Room 101 is a place for things you do NOT like. You can rant and rave about all you dislike, politics, chocolate, global warming, local/international issues or if like me the lack of use by Live Nation of The National Bowl!

For those that know me this is a real bee in my bonnet, we have this totally underused venue here in Milton Keynes. An open air venue which can hold 60,000 people and what have they used it for this year, a garden show and car boot sales!
In previous years bands that have played include Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Genesis, The Police, Queen, R.E.M, UB40, Simple Minds, U2, Michael Jackson, Robbie Williams, Take That, Ozzfest, AC/DC, Green Day, Erasure, Bon Jovi, ZZ Top and David Bowie to name but a few. So its not the bands that will not come here its someone elses fault and I lay that blame at Live Nations doorstep and their lack of enthusiasm.

Over to you!

Great new thread redial. Let's hear about all those pet hates.
With reference to your comments about underused venue, I personally hate the fact there isn't more effort to encourage new bands to play live, and to encourage young kids to go and see them.

Its pretty good around here on that score, most venues allow 14+ kids in and the local music scene is quite vibrant a whole host of kids in bands. The teenage daughter goes and sees most of them. Fell Silent is one of the bands she would like me to go and see at some point.

Ashford Rocks R.I.P.
http://www.ashfordrocks.com
For almost four years, Steve and Co have worked hard to enable the younger rock fans to go and see live bands every couple of weeks at Ashford Town football ground in Kent. This has also given local bands a chance to play shows with good PA, lights etc.
I have worked at a few of these shows, and they have always been extremely well run, with no trouble and excellent behaviour. So what happens? A local councillor "heard" that there had been underage drinking, so they immediately imposed a ban on under 14,s unless accompanied by an adult. Now the football club has been taken over, and following extensive refurbishment will no longer allow these gigs to take place. So one less venue for local and up-and-coming bands, and more bored teenagers roaming the streets.
Smart move.

Shame to hear it, that looks like there was a good little scene going on there. Jobsworths who want to push the kids out onto the streets, yes very clever!

Same as that, although I now have compulsory redundancy to look forward to in July 2008.

London beer prices!
Last night at The Jazz Cafe a pint of Carlsberg Export was £3.50 and a SMALL bottle of Magners £3.90 and it wasn't much better in the surrounding pubs!
How can anyone afford to live in London let alone have any kind of social life that involves pubs?
