A couple of weeks ago, as skintness grew closer, the difficult decision was taken to sell some lesser used guitars from the Skitteryhippen Music collection. So, firstly, the double neck - got a good price - happy with that. Next a really cheap white Les Paul copy went for 30 quid more than I paid - happy again. Last it was the turn of a really battered left handed Sattelite Les Paul Copy. Why left hand, you may ask? Well, when I ordered the double neck, some 13ish years ago, I went out with the intention of buying a guitar. However, a week long wait for delivery forced me to buy the cheapest guitar in the shop. A traded in lefty Les Paul copy. So, got it home, restrung it, and left it to one side. Where it stayed for 13ish years.
So, Ffwd 13ish years, it goes on ebay. Top bid £31. Hmm. Oh well. Next thing I get a mail from a guy who swears this is the very guitar which his dad bought for him when he was 8 years old. So I rang him, and it turned out it was! He'd part exchanged it when he was about 15, for an Aria. The convincing thing was that he'd exchanged it in the very same shop where I bought it. Spooky!! So, last Friday, he appeared with his lovely girlfriend for the grand reunion. What an amazing sight as player and instrument were reconciled. He relived every dink, dent, scratch, pen mark, superglue residue for some 45 minutes, whilst shredding away through my Marshall.
He went home a happy man, swearing never to part with it again. And for my troubles of cancelling a sale on ebay....he paid me 3 times the sale price.
Happy ending all round I say.
Anybody else got any happy stories in this world of doom & gloom?
