Top of The Pops was a must watch programme when I was at school and I can remember several Gillan appearances. Of course those were the days when pretty much everyone mimed. Every Thursday at 7.30 there would always be a crowd around the tv, shouting rubbish or praising each song. One funny moment I remember was watching No Laughing in Heaven (after Bernie had left, see thread above in Bernies bit) with John playing (miming?) a double headed guitar/bass.
I remember that as well, but lets be HONEST here lads, outside Pans People...........was there ANYTHING else?
Showing my age now, Hot Gossip. They were both dance troupes for those not in the know!
I also distinctly remember The Sex Pistols doing Pretty Vacant and no-one (even die hard fans like me) picked up EXACTLY what Johnny Rotten was saying instead of Vacant till years later when he revealed it in his autobiography.
Vay-then the dreaded C word.
Hot Gossip? I COULD post some YouTube footage, but we really don't want this turning into a sexist/adult site
Dont mean to be a miserable old git, But I think you will find that Hot Gossip were not on TOTP, they were on Kenny Everett. (Not that I am a connoisseur of such things..........)
Hills Angels were just as good. Now it has degenerated.
We don't have TotP's here, but I did once see Twisted Sister on that show.

Hot Gossip were Kennys house dance troupe, but they DID appear with Sarah Brightman and 'I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper' nonsense on TotP.

I also recall Gillan appearing on the adult version of TISWAS, called OTT, minus Bernie with John and his double headed guitar getting winched up on a wire. Chris Tarrant called them Gillian instead of Gillan, and there was a competition with the question, 'How Much does John McCoy weigh?' and some moron shouted 'Four Tons' which provoked an annoyed John McCoy to point at the smart ar*e as if to say, 'I'll see you later'
I'm sure they did New Orleans from memory
Nice find www, those were the pie days, and Tiswas was meant for all ages (of course), still trying to figure out the answer to Johns question, hmmmmm!!!
