I am heading to Dublin in June, to see R.E.M. (not everyones cup of tea, I know) play one of five nights at The Olympia Theatre. Unfortunately I will probably be there less than 24 hours! So does anyone know where I can find "the craic", where to avoid and where to go?

It takes a while though, so not so good if you are in a hurry. I catch mine at 10am and arrive at 5.30pm. But a much greener option than flying. Now all I have to do is find my passport and wait for June 30th.
Ooops forgot to add this is only valid from London, Euston, watford Junction and Milton Keynes but at £32 return a bargain.

So much for trying to curb my carbon footprint. I have been trying to buy these tickets for 2 months and been given allsorts of excuses as to why I can't buy them. Today I was told the quota was full so have been forced into flying at a cost of about £80 return.
Still, Dublin in midsummer and a cool pint of Guiness before the gig hmmm sounds good to me.
I know some of you doubt my sanity and well being whenever I mention R.E.M. (shhhh!). But I have just got back from said concert in the fair city of Dublin and well I wasn't sure what we were going to get but thought I would tell you anyway.
They played 10 new songs, with Michael Stipe reading the lyrics from song sheets or his laptop, bearing in mind this is still work in progress they were more rockier. I put that down to Scott McCaughey, Bill Rieflin and Peter Buck having almost been on the road constantly with Robyn Hitchcock since Hyde Park 2005.
In amongst the new songs they played some older favourites Second Guessing, Letter Never Sent, 1,000,000, These Days, Maps & Legends, Little America, New Test Leper, Electrolite and I’m Gonna DJ mostly stuff from their IRS years apart from two.
All in all I thought it worked, some videos can be found at

Oh yeah! What you all really want to know, the Guiness. Well I had to have at least one didn't I and I could get into it!
As for Dublin well that will definately get a return visit at some point, maybe when GMT play there again but for longer than the 24 hours I spent there this weekend.
