John Lydon to 'star' in adverts for Country Life butter. No! I hear you say but here is the story from nme.com

John Lydon is set to star in an advert for British butter brand Country Life.
According to Mad.co.uk, Lydon was chosen by the brand because he is a "British icon".
The campaign is set to start soon, although exact dates of broadcast are yet to be announced.
In a statement, Country Life said: "We don't think enough people know Country Life is the only major British butter brand and John gets the message through loud and clear.
"He is seen as a great British icon. His independent views are part of his consumer appeal and his tongue-in-cheek sense of humour shines through in our TV advertising."

Spread the word Big Grin
So much for Mr Lydon not selling out eh?
Its not margerine, its snot
Just another reason to dislike this plastic punk... Sad, sad, sad...

Naaaaaaaaaah, that's snot ^^^

Unfortunately, John relishes being the pantomine villain this past 10 years or so. An intelligent man who relies on his past too much instead of looking ahead. I remember in 1978 when he denounced the name 'Rotten' and insisted on 'Lydon' only for him to assume his old moniker since 1996.
I DO know that in 1976, Special Branch were THAT concerned about Johnny, he was monitored as he was a real risk to the country......looking back, what were the government thinking? Joe Strummer was also monitored due to his far left wing beliefs that did go against the grain of the day.
I could tell a story about the advert...........but its a tad naughty!!
The horrid 'C' word is involved

Waiting......

Sorry lads, been off-line a few days. Here goes.....Redial can delete if necessary.
Back in 1977, Sex Pistols were invited to mime-along to Pretty Vacant, showcasing Sid Vicious as bassist. They were informed that any swearing/violence/spitting would get deleted on the video tape and their performance wouldn't be aired.
However, the band went ahead and by all accounts, it was a decent performance as seen here;

Now, a few years later, John declared he'd sung it deliberatly pausing with the Vacant as 'Vay......c*nt' with the emphasis on the last part of the word. Back then, no one had noticed it at all...........its a favourite download of old aged punks like me.
However, it seems that when Lydon did his first rehersal set of lines for the Country Life Butter, he tried the same trick by pronouncing it as 'C*nt...ry Life'. Either the producer was up on his punk rock or realised the all-too-near-the-knuckle Johns' delivery of the lines were a tad too risque and had him re-read the lines carefully scrutinising Johns delivery of 'Country'.
By all accounts, the ad took a few days to film to get it right.

Heh... I used to play with a country rock outfit called Electric Stetson whose tagline was "Taking the "O" out of Country Music...". Rolleyes
