Found a story which reports that research has found there may be a link between the volume of music and the speed at which people drink!

It seems the louder the music the faster you drink, possibly because you are talking less, is one of the reasons given.

It's also pretty well documented that up-tempo music seems to have a direct effect on the rate of consumption. I have come across venues that have refused to play particular songs because they're "too slow, people stop drinking as much". :|
A little bit like supermarket music psychology then. Where laid back music is played at the off peak times, as to relax you into taking your time whilst shopping in store.

Then at the busiest times of the week they play something a little more up tempo to get you moving around the store a little bit quicker!
