OK folks, here's a great audience recording of Bernie playing in Ozzy's band from 5 April of 1982 at Madison Square Gardens, New York City. Excellent stuff and I think you'll all enjoy it!

Now I'm gonna get flack for this but Bernie is better in my opinion than Randy. The songs have a better feel to them.
Randy was amazing granted but I've always thought it was a case of right time right people writing with him(Bob Daisley). He is quite probably the most over hyped guitarist of all time.
If he'd not died I'm 100% certain he wouldn't have lasted the year(1982) with Ozzy anyway. DuBrow has always said that RR was seeing things going on behind the scenes(Hello Sharon!!) that he was not happy with.
The tripe about the crowds being unreseptive to Bernie is total rubbish too. Listen to this for yourselves and you'll see.
Bernie was let go for the same reason that all the musicians with Flair were 'let go' from Blizzard of Oz. THEY were outshing Ozzy. And not being paid correctly.
I don't really think thats warranted Cannonball.
Randy, to many people, was the best of that era. There were many brilliant players from this period, and maybe Randy was heralded as the best as he achieved iconic status dying far too early to realise his real potential.
Its no secret that he wasn't going to record a third studio album with Ozzy and he was dis-affected with the strains of touring and the madness that went with the Ozzy carnival, but away from 'behind the scenes' he always delivered 110%.
I have a mass of articles and reviews, and not one mentions any weakness in his style, approach to playing, just the sheer unbelievable talent he brought to the public.
Its sad that others copied his unique style, Yngwie Malstreem springs to mind, instead of trying to lay their own foundations and develop their own method of playing.

Apart from that, you are correct about Bernie standing in and being given a hard time from fans, what I have read and heard on bootlegs, he was well recieved by fans and the Ozzy Crew...........particually their accountant in saving them a LOT of money in a shortfall in his wages!!
Awesome stuff, Robert!

Thank you so much for your contribution!!!
Man the quality on the New Haven gig rocks!
