You've obviously played a few but did you ever go to any as a punter?
Do you have any you would recommend for us?
I see you played 2 in one day once how on earth did you manage that?
Well yes - as a punter I've been to loads - mainly things like Donington, Reading etc but it's much better when you play them as you feel that your actually helping the festival be what is!
Local festivals are really good as they aren't so large as these huge 3-dayers in which all you seem to do is walk walk walk!
+ there's so much stuff to take in, it's kinda too much!
I much preferred Donington (Download..) when it was proudly the MONSTERS OF ROCK!
& it was 1 day, 1 (or 2) stages & ALL bands were big & amazing bands!
I mean, could you ever beat this for a day out:
Iron Maiden
Kiss
David Lee Roth
Megadeth
Guns N' Roses
Helloween
- All on ONE stage, so all you had to do was plonk your festy blanket down on a patch,
open the beers, & that's where you were for the day!!
As for the 2-countries-2-festivals-in-1-day thang, well I'm very proud to have successfully done a 'Phil Collins'!!
I was playing Graspop fest in Belgium with Bruce Dickinson, & the band I was in at the time RACHEL STAMP, had a gig headlining a festival in Thurrock, Essex.
Bruce was on 5-6pm, & RS were on 10-11pm, so I called up Bruce & explained the situ.
I thought he'd fire me on the spot, when I cheekily asked him if he'd 'consider flying me & him to the gig & back' so I'd be able to do both shows, & he was totally cool about it, & actually got right into the idea - at one point he was gonna fly us in an old wartime BOMBER!!!
But that didn't come off, however, he did sort it for me & him to finish the gig, then jump offstage straight into a waiting people carrier, which whisked us to Brussels airport, then we flew to Heathrow (Bruce actually swapped his '1st Class' ticket for a regular one so we could sit together - cool - huh?!!)
then I jumped into a waiting chauffer-driven car, which sped me from West to East - James Bond stylee (ie: i'm not quite sure if we 'obeyed' the speed limits...) - I arrived at the RS gig 2minutes b4 we were due onstage, dived over the crash barrier, climbed onstage, the audience cheered, then we rocked!
The band didn't speak to me for 2weeks after - I think they were a little freaked by it all... ;o)
Rock N' F*ckin Roll I say.
