just read a story at nme.com about a goth couple that were attacked by a group of 5 teenagers
they were both left unconscious and the girl died 2 weeks later in hospital the lad survived but has still not recovered completely
i know there has always been some rivalry mods rockers etc but in this day and age and unprovoked its beyond my comprehension
you can read the stories here

Doesn't it make you sick to the back teeth? At least they caught the miscreants. Sad
Whatever your choice of music/fashion should not be a reason to warrant a kick-in, although New Romantics were fair game back in the day!!
I took no end of abuse when I was a proud to be punk in Hong Kong, especially from those Colonel Blimp colonial geriatrics. I had a dog set on me once just for wearing a God Save The Queen T-shirt (Sex Pistols and NOT Silver Jubilee) All good fun looking back, but getting beaten to a pulp is a different level all together.

Indeed...in fact when I first read the post I did think - actually, I'm afraid it's what the World has always been like. Some people are morons and that's all there is. I mean this girl lost her life because of the way she dressed? How far removed are these people from burning witches? Is her death not so incredibly ludicrous that everyone is up in arms about it? No, it gets a few column inches in the papers. But the death of a newsreader from a stroke - a natural event - got more. I know it's sad for her family, but is it actually a news worthy event? Which sells more papers? Which do people care about more? How many of us have either been beaten up or verbally abused for the way we look, and then be told by 'helpful' friends and relatives that we bring it on ourselves because of the way we look? The World, or certain parts of it, seemingly has no capacity for anything which is different, and little has changed about that statement I suspect since man first walked the earth. She says, cheerfully.
