FINALLY tracked this elusive gem down.......its a belter and an essential addition for any Bernie Collector.
The majority of the video tracks on this DVD are performed with Phil Lewis fronting the band, and I'd guess they're from shows between the "Back to Babylon" and "Die Pretty Die Young" albums (infact a number sound pretty similar to the "Official Bootleg" album that came with "Die Pretty..."). The video footage is, as the back of the DVD warns you, quite raw - and it certainly is compared to modern DVDs. However it does a really good job of showing you what Torme were all about back in the 80s. This was/is an intense band that had an immense amount of passion and raw energy on stage. The fact you get two versions of a number of songs isn't a problem either - both versions invariably have different guitar solos and show just what Bernie's about - in the accompanying interview Bernie says he doesn't like the music *business* it's the playing and jamming he enjoys, and two versions of a number of songs (Turn Out The Lights versions are both classics) you get to see this.
As a real bonus there's a 60 minute interview with Bernie, and this is excellent. Bernie comes across as an honest, working musician, with no primadonna issues at all. The interview is very candid - and his views and insights into his time with Gillan and working with Ozzy make very interesting watching. The DVD would be pretty good without this, but with it this makes it very good. I think of other guitarists that I really like and I struggle to think of any that's put together an interview as good/honest/interesting as this.
I urge fans to seek this out!
